MINNEAPOLIS – October 31, 2007: Today the Will Steger Foundation announced that Will Steger is the recipient of two prestigious international awards for his exploration of climate change: the 2007 Lowell Thomas Award, presented jointly by The Explorer’s Club and Rolex Watch U.S.A., Inc.; and National Geographic Adventure’s Second Annual Lifetime Achievement Award.
On October 18, 2007, Steger waa honored at the 2007 Lowell Thomas Awards Dinner for his journeys to the North Pole, Antarctica and his recent Global Warming 101 Expedition to Baffin Island. He is joined by a handful of other legends receiving awards for their work in “Exploring Climate Change,” whose accolades include: oceanography, geochemistry, glaciology, paleoclimatology, filmmaking and atmospheric science. The awards are named for Lowell Thomas (1892–1991), the legendary journalist, broadcaster and explorer who made "Lawrence of Arabia" famous. Thomas was a 53-year member of The Explorers Club. On November 15, 2007, Steger and Sir Richard Branson will receive the Second Annual Lifetime Achievement Award, presented as part of National Geographic Adventure magazine's celebration of the year's greatest accomplishments in the world of adventure.
