Featuring special Guest, Dr. Naomi Oreskes, author of the recently published Merchants of Doubt: How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming with Erik M. Conway.

Science historians Naomi Oreskes and Erik M. Conway, explains what—or rather who—is to blame for the climate misinformation campaign. It’s the troubling story of how a cadre of ideologues clouded the public interpretation of scientific facts to advance a political and economic agenda.

"Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway have written an important and timely book. Merchants of Doubt should finally put to rest the question of whether the science of climate change is settled. It is, and we ignore this message at our peril."
- Elizabeth Kolbert, author of Field Notes from a Catastrophe

Summer Institute Intro VideoRegister TODAY! The Will Steger Foundation is proud to announce:

The 5th annual Summer Institute for Climate Change Education on Thursday August 12th, 8:30-4:30 pm at the University of Minnesota Continuing Education & Conference Center. Featuring renowned climate science historian and author Dr. Naomi Oreskes, and Minnesota's own climatologist Dr. Mark Seeley.

This year we will look back on our last five years of climate change education outreach and curriculum development and take time to “Go Back to the Basics.”

A January 2007 Pew Research Center poll found that 77% of Americans thought there was solid evidence that the world was warming. Just two years later only 57% of Americans think that this is the case. This year’s Institute will provide educators with an understanding of why this misinformation persists and the tools to respond to those in doubt, by getting back to the basics of climate science and climate change education methods. Breakout sessions will provide time to explore the curriculum resources developed through Will Steger Foundation’s first five years, and gain a solid understanding of climate science and the current state of climate policy. In addition participants will get a special sneak preview of the Foundation’s new curriculum (pending funding approval) using Will's lifelong archives to highlight Minnesota’s changing climate. Educators will leave the Institute with the tools necessary to empower student learning and leadership on the topic of climate change.

Register Now! Registration is open for 100 onsite participants ($75/teacher or $100/pair) and an unlimited number of participants for our online webinar ($25/teacher).
