Expedition Copenhagen: a climate change education opportunity for students grades 6-12! Use adventure learning to engage your students in real world climate solutions. Free presentations available to schools throughout the Upper Midwest this fall.

Follow along with polar explorer Will Steger as he and a group of Midwest youth, ages 20-26, embark on Expedition Copenhagen, a mission to bring the youth voice to the international climate negotiations in December. The Midwest delegates are conducting educational outreach to junior and high school classrooms in the following states: Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin in Fall 2009. Presentations will cover the basics of climate change, the importance of youth engagement in climate change solutions, and how students can participate in the Expedition before and during the negotiations. Delegates will provide educators with information on the Will Steger Foundation’s new Citizen Climate curriculum, a set of interdisciplinary standards-based lessons on global climate solutions, The lessons cover the carbon cycle, target levels for atmospheric levels of greenhouse gasses, cap and trade, carbon tax, new technologies, concerns of developed and developing countries, and how to formulate position statements which if submitted to the expedition team, will be delivered in Copenhagen.
