Will Steger Foundation supports U.N. climate delegation
Written by Will Steger Foundation
We are excited to partner with local organizers and cyclists on the ‘350 Solutions Revolution’ bike tour and their participation in the United Nations climate summit (COP16) in Cancun, Mexico under the Will Steger Foundation's United Nation's accreditation.
This December U.S. climate leadership will face a critical test. In Copenhagen, Denmark, the international community will meet for the final time before the Kyoto Protocol expires. The goal of this conference is to produce a Copenhagen Protocol to prevent catastrophic climate change.
U.S. leadership in these negotiations is paramount. President Obama must hear the voice of America’s younger generation, critical to the success of his party in the latest elections, on the course his administration should take in these negotiations.
Expedition Copenhagen, December 7-18, 2009
The Will Steger Foundation is embarking on a new kind of expedition; one that brings youth voices to the global climate negotiations in Copenhagen. We will: lead a Midwest Youth delegation to Copenhagen with support from U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar; create an interdisciplinary standards-linked curriculum for grades 9 – 12 in partnership with the National Education Association; and provide multimedia blogs and real-time communications between youth delegates and classrooms in the U.S.
Your support will influence thousands of students across the U.S. and directly support youth from the Midwest, which will strengthen the region’s leadership role in climate solutions. We now have an unprecedented opportunity to put America on the path to a clean-energy future.
Expedition Copenhagen draws on our expertise in grassroots organizing, youth empowerment, curriculum development, non-partisan communication, and Adventure Learning.
By making a tax-deductable donation your dollars will have an immediate and tangible impact on our next generation of leaders and influence public policy.
Thank you for helping us make this vision a reality.
Sincerely,

Will Steger, President

NEW! Citizen Climate Lesson Plans
Written by Will Steger Foundation
These lesson plans build on the Will Steger Foundation’s original six lesson plans on the basics of global warming. The new lessons cover the carbon cycle, target levels for atmospheric levels of greenhouse gasses, cap and trade, carbon tax, new technologies, concerns of developed and developing countries, and how to formulate position statements. In Fall 2009, you can follow along with polar explorer Will Steger as he and a group of young people embark on Expedition Copenhagen, a mission to bring the youth voice to the international climate negotiations in December. First give your students the basic knowledge they need to follow the news coverage of the climate negotiations and the skills they need to make their opinions heard. Then send your students’ statements to the youth delegates headed to Copenhagen and follow the youth delegation’s multimedia blogs.
