MN Energy ChallengeThe Will Steger Foundation is working closely with the Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) through our YEA! MN program to connect schools and student leaders with the Minnesota Energy Challenge, a program of CEE.  The goal of this collaboration is to educate Twin Cities metro area students about the importance of energy conservation, inspire student-led action projects, and to motivate schools to find creative and constructive ways to save energy.

The MN Energy Challenge is a program where participants join teams within their schools, businesses, congregations and neighborhoods. Teams can then compete amongst each other to find out who can save the most energy, or simply use it as a tool to keep track of how much energy their team is saving. There are currently over 28,500 Minnesotans pledging to save over 234,290,000 pounds of CO2 every year!  The MN Energy Challenge website is fun, easy to use, and clearly explains simple and practical ways to save energy and money.  Our hope is that through collaboration between YEA! MN and the Minnesota Energy Challenge we can help schools develop teams and to encourage those teams to come up with creative and motivating energy saving campaigns that will increase peer and community participation.

YEA! MnWSF aims to engage a minimum of 3 YEA! MN network schools in a student led energy efficiency projects over the next 6-12 months, incorporating the MN Energy Challenge.  While many of the YEA! MN network schools already have student-led action projects underway, there are many that still need mentorship and guidance in selecting a meaningful project with tangible goals. Taking action on energy efficiency is one of the most impactful things students can do to reduce their carbon footprint. The partnership between YEA! MN and CEE and the MN Energy Challenge connects passionate young leaders with the tools, resources, and mentorship to take such action and reap meaningful rewards.
