wood choppingVolunteer Weekend at the Homestead was a terrific success! The place was just buzzing with activity all weekend long. Students from the St Paul Public Schools and School of Environmental Studies, in Apple Valley, Minnesota came up north to support the Expedition Team by participating in various service activities. There are still major quantities of food to pack out for the expedition, and wood to be split for remaining three weeks at the Homestead, but these young folks sure made a difference.
Students also had an opportunity to explore the local woods and ski trails, meet the sled dogs, work with members of the Expedition Team, and, if they felt brave, try out the Steger sauna and ice hole.

Temperatures have been getting steadily colder in Northern Minnesota. Over the weekend they fell as low as -20 degrees below zero at night. Our guests may have had more of an Arctic experience than they bargained for!

SES studentsThe Will Steger foundation, Expedition Team, and support staff extends a big thank you to all of the students, teachers, and chaperones that participated in the Volunteer Weekend!
